Ombudsperson Investigating Exclusion of Students from BC Public Schools.
The BC Ombudsperson, Jay Chalke, has just announced an investigation into the exclusion of students from the K-12 public education system in British Columbia.
“Our office has received complaints from across the province about children, including those with disabilities, being excluded from school with little or no instruction,” said Chalke. “We will examine the extent to which K-12 students are being excluded from schools across the province and whether those exclusions are fair. We will assess the role of the Ministry of Education and Child Care and school districts in these exclusions.”

BCCPAC released the following report in 2017:
Summary Report: Survey for Parents of Students who are denied a Full Day at School
Inclusive education remains one of the most prominent topics raised by parents seeking advocacy support from BCCPAC, by our Inclusive Education Committee, and through resolutions passed at our annual general meetings.
Members of our leadership team have been, and continue to, actively collaborate with the Ministry of Education and Child Care and other education partners to advance inclusive education initiatives. We are optimistic that this investigation will compliment these efforts and result in positive, actionable recommendations to further support all students.
How You Can Help
Parents and caregivers whose children have been affected by school exclusions are encouraged to contribute their experiences through a confidential questionnaire.
If you or your family have been impacted by school exclusions, we encourage you to participate by April 1, 2025. You can complete the questionnaire or choose to speak directly with an Ombudsperson investigator by providing your contact information in the questionnaire.
We encourage you to share this information with other families and communities who may wish to participate.
